Durban is renowned for it’s beaches – here’s our list of the TOP 5 Beaches in Durban!!

There is something about swimming in the warm Indian Ocean that cannot be beaten. Whilst we agree that the white sandy beaches of Clifton are quite a sight, the cold Atlantic Ocean has got nothing on the warm, inviting Indian Ocean.

Somehow when you ask visitors to Durban what their plans for the festive season are, you are guaranteed that a visit to one of our beaches features highly on their Durban Bucket List. So we decided to share our list of the TOP 5 beaches in Durban. Now they are not all blue flag status beaches, and some may not have received as much attention as others, but we chose them because of their features like safety, nearby food places, parking and facilities.

1. Umdloti Beach

We love the tidal pool at this beach. There are also food trucks around the area that serve delicious, burgers, samoosas and even bunny chows. You can also visit a few restaurants along the promenade which include a pizza, Italian and the famous Bel Punto restaurant too. Please note that you may need a permit for vehicle to access certain part of the beach that are reserved for residents.

2. Umhlanga Main Beach.

Blue Flag Status, free wifi, great restaurants and ample parking. Need we say more. You may have to park on the main road and walk down any of the walkways to gain access to the beaches during peak festive times.

3. Brighton Beach, Bluff

Also has a tidal pool and great cafes and take aways that are close by.

4. Ushaka Main Beach

We love this beach and the stillness of the ocean during low tide, which is often surrounded by the buzz of sand castle artists, vendors, international tourists, activities and the views of the city and harbour. Here, you are spoilt for choice for restaurants which include the franchises to Moyo’s (you must try their cocktails – AWESOME!!).

5. Durban Main Beach – Marine Parade
