FOUR Durban attractions and one KZN tourism destinations are featuring on South Africa’s latest Monopoly board.
The iconic five-star Oyster Box Hotel in uMhlanga, is the only South African hotel to feature on the popular board game, which has just been launched.
“We are ecstatic,” beamed Wayne Coetzer, the hotel’s general manager, who hosted the local media to announce the big news, before wheeling out a specially-made celebratory Monopoly Mzansi cake.
Coetzer was particularly thrilled as it was the South African public who voted on which 22 proudly South African destinations and attractions should be included in the board game.
The other local destinations on the board are King Shaka International Airport, Durban Beachfront (the Golden Mile), Florida Road, uShaka Marine World and the Drakensberg. A new board is brought out every 10 years.
Monopoly, produced by Hasbro Gaming, a global company committed to creating the world’s best play experiences, is 81 years old and has been enjoyed by more than a billion people down the generations and around the world. Several regional country versions have been produced in recent years, with the game being licensed in 103 countries and with Monopoly Mzansi being the latest addition.
Other local destinations on the board are King Shaka International Airport, Durban Beachfront (the Golden Mile), Florida Road, uShaka Marine World and the Drakensberg.
“We are expecting the game to be a big seller and it is amazing to see how people use the game to spend quality time with their children,” said Belinda Maritz for Hasbro Gaming.
