Interpret Durban is back and celebrating 7 years of Durban creative goodness! For those unfamiliar with this event Interpret Durban 7 (or #ID7 for short) is a creative competition that covers photography, video, illustration, visual art and this year is introducing architecture. This event has become the undisputed grand slam of youth driven creative competitions in the city and culminates in a night of proudly Durban goodness where the entries are exhibited in a giant exhibition, the winners announced and one heck of a party is had. This year’s theme THE SHIFT speaks to a change. A movement in paradigm. A fresh perspective on our beloved city. They want our creatives to change the way they perceive their city and portray that change through their art so that others may catch a glimpse of the city as it could be, as it might be, as it is becoming.
The #ID7 team have put together over R250 000 worth of prizes across 5 categories with some INSANE sponsors ranging from International heavy hitters to local Durban heroes. And why wouldn’t they, over the years Interpret Durban has built a name in the industry not only for their amazing prizes but moreover the high calibre of entries that come pouring in each year contesting for one of the top spots. Prizes this year include campaign work with retail giants, cash winnings, gallery exhibitions and more Durban proud awesomeness than you can shake a stick at. With top creative institutes like DUT and VEGA making participation in ID7 compulsory for some of their classes and with a host of local high schools joining suite, you can be assured that we are in for some incredible displays of emerging talent.
4 of the 5 categories are open for entry from the public. Architecture alone will be a closed competition that see’s UKZN and DUT’s schools of Architecture go head to head in an inspiring friendly match to see which interpretation of their brief prevails.
