All the pics from the lightning, wind, hail and rain in Durban.
Although some in the Northern parts of Durban and KZN experienced thunderstorms and some rain last night, it seemed like perfect weather this morning.
Durban woke up to blue skies, beautiful Spring weather and sunshine, then by this afternoon the storm hit!
Those on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal were the first to experience on the dark skies and howling wind. At around 14h00 the wind had picked up to speeds of 65kph.
Hail in Durban
Pictures of the storm approaching the coast started to surface on social media networks and were soon followed by pics of hail the size of golf balls.
Dark clouds in the south of Durban around Winkelspruit and Pennington were the first indication of hail in those areas. The hail then moved towards Isipingo and was making it’s way to Durban.
Some trees were also knocked down by the storm on the M4 northbound and many accidents were also reported.
We are still awaiting the much anticipated rains though as farmers are in dire need for more rain.
“These storms are also moving eastwards. There is a chance that they might reach areas around Greytown, Nkandla and Ulundi. Another area where there are currently thunderstorm activities is around Nongoma in Northern KZN and the Phinda area. These storms are moving towards the north coast of KZN,” said Maluleke.
