Top 5 places for Lunch in Durban for under R50
We are often in a hurry during lunchtime and looking for the best place to buy something quick, tasty and CHEAP too!
Here’s our choice of the Top 5 places for a delicious, affordable Durban Lunch:
1. Mr. Mozzies, Corner of Argyle Road and Stamford Hill Road, Durban (parking at the back of the store)
This is probably one of the best-kept secrets in Durban and our favourite!
You can get their high quality Boerewors rolls for just R15.90!
The other favourites are the Bacon franks , Biltong and cabanossi. You can also choose from their large selection of meats at their HOT Deli and cold meats too! Mr. Mozzie’s also has a store in La Lucia Mall.
2. Little Gujarat, Opposite Gateway (where Gateway to India used to be)
Okay, so they serve just vegetarian food, but a delicious, hot, vegetarian bunny bunny for R10 is a steal! They also have a large range of curries, Indian savouries like samoosas, fritters (bhajia’s), snacks, and sweetmeats too! The food is very affordable and delicious too!
3. “Johnnie’s” Sunrise Chip n Ranch, 89 Sparks Road Overport
A KZN favourite, and one that is very popular with late nighters. The Famous “Johnny’s” Chip, Trip Cheese and Mutton Gravy has to be the best late night food in Durban!
Prices range from R8.00 for bunnies and their Combo deals are excellent for families.
4. Afro’s Chicken, South Beach Promenade on the Beachfront across Addington Hospital
Everyone is talking about the yellow container on the beachfront., and if you have not tried it, you are missing out!
The famous “tjips” are legendary and the awesome views are FREE. The burger and strips and chips will cost you R36, and although you will probably wait a while +/- 30 mins during busy periods, it’s worth it!
5. RK’s Shop 6, Protea hotel, Palm Boulevard, Umhlanga
Where in Durban can you get a sandwich for R6 these days? Let alone a spicy, saucy, cheesy fast food delight that should really be more popular by now in RK’s Vegetarian Fast Foods. Five bucks gets you two slices of toasted white bread filled with freshly fried potato chips, cheese and a tangy sweet n’ sour chili sauce.
Their prices are extremely reasonable and though they’re usually quite busy no matter what time of day you stop by, their service is efficient and friendly.
Special Sandwiches are an extremely fast seller and are made all day, so you generally don’t have to wait too long for those.
