5. RK’s Shop 6, Protea hotel, Palm Boulevard, Umhlanga

Where in Durban can you get a sandwich for R6 these days? Let alone a spicy, saucy, cheesy fast food delight that should really be more popular by now in RK’s Vegetarian Fast Foods. Five bucks gets you two slices of toasted white bread filled with freshly fried potato chips, cheese and a tangy sweet n’ sour chili sauce.

Their prices are extremely reasonable and though they’re usually quite busy no matter what time of day you stop by, their service is efficient and friendly.

Special Sandwiches are an extremely fast seller and are made all day, so you generally don’t have to wait too long for those.
