
Durban Academy High School
Durban Acadamy/Akademie is an educational institution located on the Bluff in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Province of South Africa. The schools aim is to be a true community based school where students can achieve their full potential on all levels. The School’s History:
In 1956 is die eerste Afrikaanse skool, Island View, Bluff gestig. In 1957 word die skool se naam verander na Dirkie Uys en is studente vanaf standered 1 tot standerd 6 aanvaar. In Januarie 1959 word die skool uitgebrei om ‘n hoërskool te akkommodeer met mnr P. R.T Nel as skoolhoof. In 1962 trek die studente oor na die huidige skoolgebou en matrikuleer die eerste groep studente. Oor die jare word ‘n trotse tradisie gevorm wat studende laat presteer tot die hoogste vlakke van alle aspekte van die samelewing. Aan die begin van 1997 word die eerste Engels-sprekende leerders by die skool aanvaar. Op 1 April 1997 verander die skool se naam na Durban Akademie/ Durban Academy.
In 1956 the first Afrikaans school was established on the Bluff, Island View. In 1957 the schools name changed to Dirkie Uys and had learners from Class 1 to Standard 6. In January 1959 the High School was established with Mr. P. R. T. Nel as the principal. In 1962 the school moved to its current building and the first group of students matriculated. Over the years a proud tradition was being established and the students reached create heights on all levels of life. At the beginning of 1997 the first English speaking students were accepted by the school. On 1 April 1997 the schools name changed to Durban Acadamy/Akademie.
In June 2012, Durban Academy was awarded as the Best High School on the South Durban community
