Back in 1980, an aspiring chef passionate about food opened his first restaurant in his home town of Zhong Shan city in Canton province, China. He wanted every customer that walked through the door, whether there to dine or visit, to feel welcomed and rejoice in his happiness. He, therefore, named the restaurant ‘Foon Lok Nien’, which means  Happy Year (all around).

1996, after emigrating to South Africa, ‘Foon Lok Nien’ moved with his family to Westville, with the same good wishes for its new patrons.
