OUR HERITAGE
Glenwood was founded in 1910, with 26 Foundation Scholars, as a progressive institution whose aim was to meet the demands of a rapidly changing society in which individuals would be imbued with life-long knowledge and skills. Today, Glenwood has grown to rank among the premier boys' schools in the country. The School caters for approximately 1200 pupils from Form 2 to Post Matric. The Boarding Establishment, Gibson House, was established in 1935 and provides 270 boys with a safe, homely environment, as well as several leisure facilities such as a computer room, games room and common room

OUR MISSION
Glenwood's mission is dedicated to offering the best possible education to prepare the individual for the new Millennium.
To this end we offer a diverse range of subjects: English, Afrikaans, Zulu, Mathematics, Science, Biology, Accounting, Business Economics, History, Geography, Art, Drama, Technical Drawing, Design and Technology and Computer Studies. Moreover, the pupils are able to take advantage of two well equipped, up to date IT Centres, as well as a recently refurbished Media Centre. This ensures for each Glenwood boy an academic edge - borne out by our Matric Exemption percentage pass. Many pupils also undertake the Accounting, Mathematics, Science and Computer Olypiads.
The school provides many sporting opportunities in which learners can take part: from rugby, cricket, hockey, racquet sports and aquatics to musketry, softball, volleyball and table tennis.
The many Honours Boards around the school are evidence of the School's sporting prowess.To complete the holistic circle, other extra-curricular activities include chess, debating, public speaking, business game, drama, band, first aid and a military history society.

With our holistic approach, coupled to comprehensive guidance and leadership courses, we hope to nurture responsible and self-disciplined citizens of tomorrow -who are mindful of their heritage and will meet the challenges of the future with enthusiasm and confidence.
GLENWOOD’S REPUTATION
Glenwood is today acknowledged as one of the leading Boys’ Schools in the country, and enjoys a reputation built on the achievements of the past. Its boys have over the years distinguished themselves in all fields of endeavour.
The School began life in 1910 to meet the challenge of the new era of technology. Today, a comparative newcomer to the “historic” scene, Glenwood stands unquestionably high in the ranks of the country’s prestigious schools. It is a rewarding example of educational individuality in a changing world.
Academically, Glenwood boys have regularly featured among the top learners in KwaZulu-Natal. They have gone on to excel at University and have achieved the highest academic honours as winners of Rhodes scholarship (3 in 2003), Smuts Scholarship and Elsie Ballot Scholarships.
Glenwood is a school that is old enough to have carved a niche in South African Schools History and young enough to embrace the changes and challenges of the future.
GLENWOOD’S EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Glenwood is concerned with the education of all its boys. It stresses the striving after excellence and takes pride in the achievements of the talented and exceptional individuals. This education taken in the broader sense includes an increased responsibility for the boys’ social, moral, spiritual and emotional development, in addition to our traditional interest in academic proficiency.
