Zaytoun South Africa

Zaytoun CIC was founded in 2004 following work with Palestinian farmers who had lost their olive oil export markets since the intifada (uprising).

Zaytoun SA was formed in 2012, initially as an individual’s attempt to make a meaningful contribution to the people of Palestine by developing Fair Trade links between South Africa and Palestine. We aim to make a difference in the quality of lives of marginalised farming communities in Palestine – in most cases they have been the unfair victims of Israeli occupation and oppression where land has been stolen from them, olive and date trees destroyed and access to water and even their farms restricted by the building of the Illegal Israeli Wall, Settlements, and Checkpoints.

We are committed to working hard to establish a sustained place for Palestinian Fairly Traded Produce in the South African market place and homes. Following months of planning, preparation, liaising and negotiating we now have been running 3 years since the launch of Zaytoun Palestinian products in South Africa of July 2012.

Zaytoun SA aims to visit Palestine annually to meet the farmers and cooperatives involved. The point of these meetings will be to ensure that the quality of products is paired with optimal pricing to ensure a win-win situation for both the struggling farmers and Zaytoun consumers.

Zaytoun is a non-profit entity. Proceeds are reinvested into socio-economic projects targeted at the communities we deal with in Palestine. We are committed to supporting Palestinians in their non-violent resistance against the Illegal Israeli Occupation and to principles of peace and justice for all.

Zaytoun SA values the support it has received from Zaytoun CIC (Palestine and UK), Palestinian farming communities, co-operatives, suppliers and local SA communities to make this project a reality and we look forward to a prosperous future ahead and further developing these relationships and support structures.
