Durban this weekend has lots to do, so get out your diary and plan your weekend.
Durban’s great new and trendy downtown venue, The Rivertown BeerHall will be kicking off the The Rivertown Heritage Festival Series 1 at 6pm tonight. The festival will allow Durban to showcase it’s rich heritage, whilst breathing new life and revitalising the streets with new energy and excitement. The series will bring you events that include culture, art, food, local beer with unique Durban creativity.
Tonight’s event, SLAM SOLO, features poerty Slam champion and battle rapper, EWOK. His set will feature classic and new material, including the poetic hit single, “Patrick Lambie”
There will also be other DJs and Visual artists to feed any creatives’ appetite. Tickets are R40
Desmond and The Tutus Album Launch
This amazing South African band will be performing live in two venues in Durban this weekend, and will be bringing good pals Taxi Violence to perform with them. After the great success of their last album, this self described kwela-indie-punk band will be launching “Enjoy Yourself” over the weekend. The first gig will be at Live – The Venue, 166 Stamford Hill Road. R60 will get you in.
Tomorrow the band will head down south to Ollies Pub and Grill in Amanzimtoti. Great stuff for live music fans.
Comedy Is The Order For A Saturday
If you need a good laugh over the weekend, there will be two live comedy shows running in Durban.
“Laughing Wild” will be performing its last few shows over the weekend at DHS’s Seabrookes Theatre in Musgrave. This zany comedy show explores the battle two people face to fit into a world they are forced to live in. Starring the acclaimed Lisa Bobbert and Darren King, the show is bound to have you in tears of laughter. Performances at 7.30pm Tuesday to Saturday and 3pm Sunday.
The Coloured Comedy Festival
This stand-up comedy show will be hosted at iZulu Theatre from the 11th – 12th of October. Bringing together some of the hottest and funniest comedians, the show explores the lifestyle of the coloured community. The witty, hilarious and humorous bunch from Wenthworth to the Cape Flats will unpack their personal experiences and take on issues such as Bafana Bafana’s lack of a victory, to President Zuma’s much talked about lifestyle choices.
