South Africa was all shook up at midday when an earthquake measuring 5.3 hit the country

At first it seemed like many were imagining it as earthquakes are rare occurrences in South Africa, and then social media platforms went abuzz with people experiencing tremors all over the country.
The earthquake hit at 12:22 CAT about 6km East of Orkney, South Africa and measured 5.3 on the Richter scale as per the readings on the United States Geological Survey site.
The area has periodic, moderate tremors, though the quake today was one of the strongest in recent years.
Although there have been no reports of injuries yet, emergency centres have been placed on high alert and people are requested to call 084124 to report any injuries.
