The third annual Lovers and Friends (L&F) festival will be the centre of attention during this year’s month of love as it will be campaigning and promoting love against gender-based violence (GBV).
The event is one of the largest lifestyle events on the Durban calendar and will be featuring local as well as international artists such as the renowned RNB artist Syleena Johnson, who will be headlining this fair.
Underpinning the theme of the annual L&F event is a song called Imbokodo by an artist named J Sabali. It contains a message that promotes a stand against GBV- it speaks a lot to the male species around the world, aiming to prevent and promote the safety of women and children.
Zaiboonissa Pheerbhay who is the Spokesperson & Communications manager for lovers and friends said the month of love is the ideal time to promote this message.
“This Festival is to highlight the scourge of gender-based violence. Our primary message is #LoveAgainstGbv- we believe this is the perfect platform to go ahead and promote the message simply because it’s an environment filled with people who are considered lovers and friends.”
“Gender based violence concerns/touches a wider range of people, in communities, families, couples and strangers- so we are calling upon everyone to come spread the love,” said Pheerbhay.
The L&F festival will showcase the widest variety of activities that promote love and skills development programmes. Six upcoming artists will get an opportunity of a lifetime to share the stage with well-known celebrities and gain exposure in their performance careers.
“Each year we unearth talents from all over the province with an aim of developing them into a bookable piece of art. In 2020 we are taking it a notch further. By introducing an international platform,” said L&F Founder, Sibusiso Gumede.
“The L&F event prides itself to be the first Durban annual concert to be in February and to have a first international artist such as Syleena Johnson, for local event companies. We are also in plans to be the first ones to bring an International artist to the Zulu Royal Palace as we believe it is important to honour the Zulu Kingdom, continued Gumede.
This year’s event will be nothing short of amazing, with world class entertainment by local, national and international musicians. For the third annual Lovers and Friends festival, the line-up is as follows: international R&B and soul singer Syleena Johnson, Simmy, Brenda Mtambo, Qwabe Twins, Thee Legacy, Ndlebe the comedian, Ntokozo Ngongoma, J Sabali, and many more.
