OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

DATE:  Monday, May 13, 2019

The “TINTANIC”, the largest Titanic model in Africa and the fifth largest in the world docks in at the Ridge@Shallcross on 15 May 2019.  With a hull made of tin, and more than 4000 interior rooms, she is the most unique and elegant replica of the Titanic –Ship of Dreams. The model measures in at an impressive 8.7 meters long, 2 meters tall and 1 meter wide and weighs approximately 400kg.  Accompanying the “TINTANIC” are smaller versions of the ship in the form of a miniature wreck model and a pristine builders model. Blueprints of the side view and the cutaway section will also be on display; providing rich detail and information for the enjoyment of all visitors.

This special exhibition marks its final exhibition in KZN; never to appear in the province again. The 2019 Costal Tour saw the TINTANIC visiting Hemingways Mall in East London, South Coast Mall in Shelly Beach, The Pearls of Umhlanga, and The Boardwalk Inkwazi in Richards Bay.  It makes its final appearance in Kwa-Zulu Natal at The Ridge@Shallcross in Chatsworth from 15 May 2019until 16 June 2019 marking the end of her successful KZN 2019 TOUR.

In proud association with The Ridge @ Shallcross, the “TINTANIC” is being brought to one of the most expressive and exciting communities in KZN to uplift and encourage entrepreneurship and enlighten the power within. It will give the community a chance to interact with this model, to think creatively and challenge everyone to think outside the box in the face of our changing world.  Following this final docking, tion the “TINTANIC” will weigh anchor and depart Kwa-Zulu Natal forever – never returning to the Province – it is a once in a lifetime exhibition not to be missed.

MEDIA RELEASE – TINTANIC EXHIBITION

GINO HART, THE CREATOR AND DESIGNER OF THE TINANTIC said that “I have been so fortunate to be able to do what I do – to inspire.  I look forward to meeting the young artists who took part in the Schools Competition at The Ridge and who have made artistic impressions of the great ship TITANIC.   I want to meet each and every one of them – the dreamers and the wonderers.  We are going to have such a TITANIC time!  What a thrill to be coming to an area so rich with enthusiasm and anticipation – I am so blessed to have the opportunity.  It’s about more than a giant model coming, it’s about opening the mind to endless possibilities and the thought that this is actually the very last time this wonderful ship will be in KZN. We are making history and it is to be celebrated. The “TINTANIC” EXHIBITION is a travelling exhibit which encourages people to follow their hearts and dreams and to turn their visions of a creative collective into a reality”

“We are going to relive history during the month long exhibition of the Tintanic.  We see it as one of the most engaging educational exhibits ever,” said Jane Pillay, the Mall’s Marketing Manager. “Our mall looks forward to welcoming everyone from Durban and KZN as a whole yet to see this magnificent model.  If you have missed this exhibition elsewhere, you have one final chance to view it at our Mall.  It is really a sight to behold. We are looking forward to also welcoming all the Schools and want to encourage parents to bring their kids to view this mighty exhibit,” she added.

A Titanic photo booth will be set up in the Exhibition area and all visitors and shoppers are welcome to have their photos taken there. A competition was held with schools in Chatsworth, with over 80 drawings of the titanic submitted. These beautiful drawings will be on display in the Mall throughout the exhibition period.
