Restaurants in Durban & KZN

Durban (eThekweni in Zulu) is the third-largest city in South Africa and the country’s leading holiday resort

Bellevue Café – Kloof

There is something special about dining in a beautiful garden courtyard amongst majestic trees and melodies of birds. This beautiful café’ in Kloof is perfect for families and even has an eclectic gift shop next door. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. Our Recommendation: Their Chicken Pot Pie was awesome and if you are a coffee lover then you must try their Turkish Coffee.

Blueberry Hill Café

This place is worth a drive up to the Midlands Meander! We were greeted by a beautiful vegetable garden and the large volume entrance was spectacular. The platters to share are very popular as they include local produce from the Midlands. Whilst you are there, make sure you visit the restrooms, trust me the view is amazing!! Our Recommendation: The Blueberry cheesecake is the best I have ever tasted and we loved their Butternut soup too!

Lola’s Bistro

One of my favorite local coffee shops has just opened a café at the Quarters Hotel in Florida Road and the meals we ordered from their new café menu have been awesome!! Our recommendation: If you are a coffee lover or banting, then their bulletproof coffee is a must-try. The lightly seared tuna with a sesame seed crumb on deep-fried wasabi mash balls was delicious.

Wok Box

You have not tasted Thai Food until you have been to the Wok Box. The lively ambiance and fresh ingredients are what makes this a winner. They have also recently extended the premises to include Dim Sums and other interesting “Thai Tapas”. Our recommendation: The Tuna on Crispy Spinach Salad and the Crispy Duck Noodles are my favorites.

Mo’s Noodles

There are Noodles and then there are Mo’s Noodles! I love that they have taken noodles to a whole new level. They serve very generous portions and their prices are pretty reasonable too. Our recommendation: The Coconut Prawn Noodles are the Best.

Capsicum Restaurant

If you want Indian Food then there is only one place to go to in Durban – Brittania Hotel’s Capsicum Restaurant. Their food is consistent and you will find everything from a bunny chow, to crab curry and Bombay crush. Our recommendation: Their Chops Chutney and Mutton Bunny.

Makaranga Lodge

I loved the views of the expansive, beautiful gardens from their deck whilst we enjoyed our lunch. They also provide the most delicious packed picnic baskets that you could take into the gardens to enjoy. Our recommendation: Their wide range of Mediterranean cuisine is a must-try.

Lucky Shaker

Now if you a looking for a cool place to hang out with family and friends that offers great burgers and even greater signature drinks then Lucky Shaker is where it’s at. It’s close to the beach and their cocktails are legendary. They have also just launched their new Summer Menu. Our recommendation: The Chipotle Chicken Burger and try #First Date which is where they shake cardamom-infused gin with their house-made date syrup, fresh grapefruit, lemon, cranberry and a touch of egg white to give it its deliciously silky consistency – yummy!!

The Waffle House

No trip to the South Coast is complete without a visit to the Waffle House. It’s probably the only place in the world where you can get a curry on a waffle!! Our recommendation: The chicken curry waffle and the pecan, banana waffle with cream and ice cream and chocolate sauce.Ciao Bella Café

This is probably one of the best-kept secrets in Durban. But, if you are looking for a cool, trendy place that serves the best Pizza, then you have got to visit this café. The artisanal pizza bases are light, crispy and full of flavor, it’s the closest to the real authentic Pizza in Italy. Our recommendation: You must try their Pizza’s – AWESOME!! We hope that you follow the trail to explore the hidden foodie gems in and around Durban and KZN.
